General Neighborhood Information

Mission Beach is the San Diego beach neighborhood south of Pacific Beach and north of Ocean Beach. The primary geographic feature that separates Mission Beach from Pacific Beach is that Mission Beach consists only of the strip of land separating the Pacific Ocean from Mission Bay. This unique geography makes Mission Beach somewhat of a goldmine when it comes to real estate as well. A good percentage of the properties are either beach front or bay front and all properties are within a block of both the beach and the bay. As an investment opportunity Mission Beach is a good bet as well. Many of the properties can be rented out weekly as a "San Diego Beach House" in the summer months (June to September) at a weekly rate comparable to the winter monthly rates as tourists flock from Arizona and Nevada to escape the scorching summer heat.

Selecting an area in Mission Beach

Although small, Mission Beach is a fairly diverse community. Certain areas are much more peaceful while other areas are in the center of the action. Many of the Mission Beach walking courts offer friendly neighborhoods with cute yards and no driving traffic and are often much more affordable when compared to the water front locations. Ocean front is typically best as an investment opportunity as many of the ocean front units demand top dollar as summer rentals.

Area Schools

Mission Beach is not a neighborhood where families typically raise children. While the beach is a great place for the kids to spend time, surf and hang out, the fact is that there are not a lot of families with children living in the neighborhood. For that reason Mission Beach does not have any schools. Mission Beach elementary school has long been closed and the closest high schools and middle schools/junior high schools are in Pacific Beach and Crown Point. The area offers a proximity to both Mission Bay High School and La Jolla High School. The latter is among the top public high schools in San Diego County. The Santa Clara Recreation Center is another great place for kids to hang out offering summer camps along with playing fields, basketball and tennis courts and other activities.

Other San Diego Neighborhoods

Mission Beach sits in the center of San Diego's beach communities. It is surrounded by other popular communities such as Ocean Beach to the south and Pacific Beach immediately bordering on the north. Crown Point offers a friendly community in the middle of Mission Bay while Point Loma and south La Jolla overlook the shores of Mission Beach.
